Troubleshooting
Check the following for a possible cause of a problem before contacting service.
Symptom
HD DVR does not turn
on.
Snowy picture and
unclear sound.
No picture.
Normal picture but no
sound.
Picture is distorted.
Available channels are

does not work properly.
Won’t record or display

Possible Solution(s)
Plug the power cord into a wall power outlet securely.
Check your antenna input or location. (pages 11, 29)
Make sure the correct video display format is selected. (page 23)
If the HD DVR is connected to your monitor or TV via the VIDEO OUT jack on the
back panel, the display format must be set to 480i. Otherwise, you may not be able
to see a picture. (page 23)
If the HD DVR is connected to your monitor or TV via the RGB port on the back
panel, the display format must not
be set to 480i. Otherwise, you may not be able
to see a picture. (page 23)
Make sure that the correct component type is selected. (page 23)
If the HD DVR is connected to your monitor or TV via the YPbPr jacks on the back
panel, OUTPUT SELECTION must be set to the YPbPr position. Otherwise, you will
probably see an abnormal picture. (page 23)
If the HD DVR is connected to your monitor or TV via the RGB port on the back
panel, OUTPUT SELECTION must be set to the RGB position. Otherwise, you may
not be able to see a picture. (page 23)
Select EZ Channel Scan or Manual Channel Add functions if you have not already
done so. (page 28)
Check to make sure all the cables are installed correctly and that a proper source is
selected on your TV. For example, Video 1 or 2. (page 30)
The antenna signal strength may be low. Check the signal strength and adjust the
antenna location and direction. (page 29)
Due to copyright restrictions, you may not be able to view some high definition pro-
grams in the high definition format. (page 23)
