Viewing on a standard (4:3) TV
DVDs recorded in
16:9 size
When DVDs
recorded in wide
size are played on
a standard TV,
black bands
appear at the top
and bottom of the
picture.
DVDs recorded in
16:9 size
When DVDs
recorded in wide
size are played on
a standard TV, the
left and right sides
of the picture are
cut off.

When DVDs
recorded in 4:3 size
are played on a
standard TV, the
picture will appear
normal regardless
of the setting.

16:9 size
When DVDs

size are played on a
standard TV and the
player is set to
“16:9 (Wide)”, the
picture will appear
stretched vertically
on the screen. In
this case, select
“4:3 (Letter Box)”
or “4:3 (Pan &
Scan)”.

Note:
For some discs it is not possible to switch
the aspect ratio. For details, refer to the
disc’s jacket.
The horizontal-to-vertical screen size ratio of standard TVs is 4:3, while that of
wide screen and high definition TVs is 16:9. This horizontal-to-vertical ratio is
called the aspect ratio. On discs with which the aspect ratio cannot be
changed, switch the screen size as necessary using the monitor button on
the PDV-LC10 and the corresponding button on the TV.
