8. TV reCO rding: hard-
ware seTup
When connected to your home tuner (cable box, satellite receiver, digital
tuner, DSL box or VCR), you will be able to schedule recordings manually
or via the ARCHOS TV Program Guide (EPG).
8.1 COnneCTiOn prinCiples
The ARCHOS is a ‘pass-through’ device. This means that when it is off or when
you press the TV button, it simply passes the audio and video signals (from cable
box, satellite receiver, digital tuner, etc.) through the ARCHOS to your television
(not in HDMI output mode).
What this means is that you will place the ARCHOS ‘between’ your television
reception device (Cable box, satellite receiver, Digital TV receiver, etc.) and your
television. See diagrams on next page.
When connecting cables between devices, always remember that the OUT con-
nectors of one device must be connected by cables to the IN connectors of the
next device. You can think of it as the signals traveling out of one device into the
next device. Finally, make sure that you always match the color of the connector
with the color of the jack it is being plugged into.
8.2 COnneCTing a Tuner TO yOur arChOs
This shows the basic connection setup of a television source (tuner), the ARCHOS, and
your TV.
Your tuner needs to be connected to your home antenna/satellite/cable.
Connect your tuner’s TV outputs to the ARCHOS’ inputs (see diagrams on next
page).
The ARCHOS’ outputs should already be connected to your TV. If not, see dia-
grams on next page.
If you can still watch TV when the ARCHOS TV
+
is off (but plugged in), it means
that you have correctly connected the ARCHOS as a pass-through device.
If you cannot watch TV anymore, this means that there is an incorrect connec-
tion. Check the previous connections steps carefully.
