Cannot record. You haven’t inserted a disc or the disc you inserted cannot be recorded on. Insert a disc the
unit can record onto.
The disc is unformatted. Format the disc. [RAM]
The write-protect tab on the cartridge is set to “PROTECT” or the disc is protected with “DISC
SETTING”.
Some programs have limitations on the number of times they can be recorded (CPRM).
The disc is full or nearly full. Erase unneeded titles or use another disc.
You cannot record on finalized DVD-R discs.
If you repeatedly insert discs or turn this unit on and off 50 times or more, the recording or
editing of DVD-R may be disabled.
The material you are trying to record is copy-guarded.
Timer recording will not be activated when in editing or transfer (dubbing). Timer recording will
begin after the editing/transfer (dubbing) is finished.

A part or whole of a recorded
title has been lost.
If the power shuts down or the plug is disconnected from the household AC outlet while
recording or editing, the program may be lost or the disc may become unusable.
#We cannot offer any guarantee regarding lost titles or discs. You will have to format the disc
([RAM]) or use a new disc.
Cannot format. The disc is dirty. Use a special cleaner and wipe clean.
You tried formatting a disc that is not compatible with this unit.

Cannot create chapters.
Cannot mark the start point
or the end point during
“Shorten” operation.
The unit writes the chapter division information to the disc when you turn it off or remove the
disc. The information is not written if there is an interruption in the power before this.
These operations are not possible with still pictures.
You cannot set points if they are too close to each other. You cannot set an end point before
a start point.
Cannot erase chapters. When the chapter is too short to erase, use “Combine Chapters” to make the chapter longer. 35
The available recording time
doesn’t increase even after
erasing recordings on the
disc.
Available recording space on the DVD-R does not increase even after erasing previously
recorded titles.
Cannot create a play list. You cannot select all the chapters at once in a title if the title also includes still pictures. Select
them individually.
VHS
OSD messages do not appear. Go to VHS MENU and select “ON” in “OSD”.
Press [STATUS] to show the on-screen messages constantly.

The blue back appears during
play.
You are playing a blank or poor quality part of the tape.
You can damage the unit if you play dirty or damaged tapes and this can cause the blue back
to appear. Consult your dealer.
Cannot hear the desired audio
type.
Press [AUDIO] to select the audio.

There is noise when playing a
video tape.
Adjust the tracking.
The tape is old or damaged.

Cannot play. Tapes recorded under a TV system other than NTSC (PAL, SECAM, etc.) cannot be played.
The playback screen flickers. The video head is dirty.
The tape is too old or damaged.
1” flashes when I try to start
recording.
Cannot record.
The erasure prevention tab has been removed. Cover the hole with adhesive tape.

Cannot record TV program. The desired channel is not selected. Select the desired TV program.
