Problem Solution
WARNING
Under no circumstances should you try to repair the system yourself, as this will
invalidate the warranty. Do not open the system as there is a risk of electric shock.
If a fault occurs,  rst check the points listed below before taking the system for repair.
If you are unable to remedy a problem by following these hints, consult your dealer or
Philips for help.
No power.
The message “IS TVON?”
appears on the display panel.
The recorder does not
respond.
Remote control does not
work.
No picture.
No sound.
SAT (satellite) recording does
not occur.
Press the STANDBY-ON button on the front of the recorder
to turn on the system.
– Make sure the AC outlet has power.
– The recorder will not operate until you complete the basic
installation. Read chapter “Step3: Installation and Set-up” for
details.
– There is a technical problem. Disconnect the recorder from the
power outlet for 30 seconds, then connect again. If the recorder
still will not operate, then reset it to the default factory settings:
1) Disconnect the recorder from the power outlet.
2) Press and hold down STANDBY-ON button on the front of
the recorder while reconnecting to the power outlet.
3) Release STANDBY-ON button when “IS TVON?” appears
on the display. All the information stored in the memory
(programmes, time) will be cleared. You may need to reset
the recorder settings after completing the basic installation.
– Aim the remote control directly at the sensor on the front of
the recorder (not towards TV). If the recorder receives a signal
from the remote control, the icon
D
will appear on the display.
– Remove any obstacles between the recorder and remote
control.
– Batteries are weak. Replace the batteries.
– Turn on your TV and set to the correct Video In channel for
the recorder. You may go to Channel 1 on your TV, then press
the channel down button on your TV’s remote control until you
see the TV programme.
– Check the video connection between the recorder and the TV.
– Check the recorder audio connection. Read chapter “Basic
Recorder Connections - Connecting the audio cables” for
details.
– Set the Analogue output or Digital output correctly, based on
the device you have connected to the recorder. Read chapter
“Setup Menu Options - Sound settings” for details.
– Check the { Low Power Standby } option is set to ‘Off’ in the
{ Feature } setting.
– Check the { SAT record } option is set to ‘On’ in the
{ Recording } setting.
– Make sure that the Satellite Receiver is connected to the
EXT 2 AUX-1/O scart socket.
