Using the Menu System
Chapter 5 53
Using the Menu System
Program Guide
Selecting PROGRAM GUIDE from the main menu displays a menu with a variety
of display options available. You can select the logo or channel guide, search
by category or style, or change the active prole.
Displaying Program Guides
In addition to selecting PROGRAM GUIDE in the main menu, you can press the
GUIDE button on the remote control. This bypasses the Program Guides menu
and displays the default guide.
Proles
The Proles menu lets you set up different channel lists and limits for the
different members of your family. You can set up a main prole – the Family
prole – and up to four separate proles, along with the All Channels prole.
You can change individual settings for each prole in the Prole menu.
User prole basics
If your DIRECTV
®
HD Receiver is going to be used by more than one person in
your household, you should consider setting up user proles for each user.
The Proles menu allows you to:
• Set ratings limits for the HD Receiver (applies to all users).
• Set pay per view spending limits for the HD Receiver (applies to all users).
• Edit channel lists for the DIRECTV
®
System, and customized lists for
individual users.
• Change the color and translucency of the menu and guide screens for each
user prole.
• Set which user prole is currently active.
• Lock and unlock the system (controlling when the ratings limits, spending
limits, and channel restrictions are active).
There are six user proles you can choose:
The FAMILY user prole is the master prole for your HD Receiver. The
ratings limits, channel restrictions, and pay per view spending restrictions you
set in the Family prole apply to all of the user proles.
The USER 1 - USER 4 user proles allow individuals in your household to
create custom channel lists and custom screen appearances for their own use.
These proles can be renamed to identify them with members of your household.
Ratings, spending, and channel restrictions set in the Family prole still apply
when one of these four user proles is the active prole and the system is locked.
The ALL CHANNELS prole is the default user prole. The All Channels
prole cannot be edited.
When the current user prole is All Channels and the system is locked, the
ratings, spending, and channel restrictions set in the Family prole still apply.
Once you have modied the channel lists in the other user proles, you can
use the program guide in the All Channels prole to see a list of all channels
available on your HD receiver (both viewable and blocked channels).
Note:
The program guide is described in detail in the
previous chapter, Special Features, starting on
page 37.
