Using the Menu System
Program Guide
Selecting PROGRAM GUIDE from the main menu displays a menu with a variety
of display options available. You can select the logo or channel guide, search
by category or style, or change the active prole.
Displaying Program Guides
In addition to selecting PROGRAM GUIDE in the main menu, you can press the
GUIDE button on the remote control. This bypasses the Program Guides menu
and displays the default guide.
Proles
The Proles menu lets you set up different channel lists and limits for the
different members of your family. You can set up a main prole – the Family
prole – and up to four separate proles, along with the All Channels prole.
You can change individual settings for each prole in the Prole menu.
User prole basics
If your DIRECTV
®
HD Receiver is going to be used by more than one person in
your household, you should consider setting up user proles for each user.
The Proles menu allows you to:
• Set ratings limits for the HD Receiver (applies to all users).
• Set pay per view spending limits for the HD Receiver (applies to all users).
• Edit channel lists for the DIRECTV
®
System, and customized lists for
individual users.
• Change the color and translucency of the menu and guide screens for each
user prole.
• Set which user prole is currently active.
• Lock and unlock the system (controlling when the ratings limits, spending
limits, and channel restrictions are active).
There are six user proles you can choose:
The FAMILY user prole is the master prole for your HD Receiver. The
ratings limits, channel restrictions, and pay per view spending restrictions you
set in the Family prole apply to all of the user proles.
The USER 1 - USER 4 user proles allow individuals in your household to
create custom channel lists and custom screen appearances for their own use.
These proles can be renamed to identify them with members of your household.
Ratings, spending, and channel restrictions set in the Family prole still apply
when one of these four user proles is the active prole and the system is locked.
The ALL CHANNELS prole is the default user prole. The All Channels
prole cannot be edited.
When the current user prole is All Channels and the system is locked, the
ratings, spending, and channel restrictions set in the Family prole still apply.
Once you have modied the channel lists in the other user proles, you can
use the program guide in the All Channels prole to see a list of all channels
available on your HD receiver (both viewable and blocked channels).
Note:
The program guide is described in detail in the
previous chapter, Special Features, starting on
page 37.
