Preamble
The Licenses fi)r most software are designed to take awa3, your
freedom to sfiare and change it. By contrast, the GNU General
Public License is intended to guarantee yore"freedom to share
and change free software-to make sure tfie soltware is Dee lk_r
all its users. This General Public License applies to most of the
Free Soltware Foundation's software and to any oflaer program
whose authors commit to using it. (Some other Free Sol}ware
Foundation software is covered by the GNU Lesser General
Public License instead.) You can apply it to your programs, too.
When we speak of fiee sol, ware, we are referring to fieedom, not
price. Our Genera] Public Licenses are designed to make sure
tfiat you have the fi'eedonl to distribute copies of five sot}ware
(and charge tot this service if you wish), that you receive source
code or can get it if yon want it, that you can change the software
or use pieces of it in new fi'ee programs; and thai you know you
can do these things.
To protect your rights, we need to make restrictions that lk_rbid
anyone to deny you these rights or to ask you to surrender the
rights. These restrictions translate to certain responsibilities fi_r
yon if you distribute copies of the sof_,ware, or if you modify it.
For example, if you distribute copies of such a program, whether
gratis or tier atee, you nlust give the recipients all the rigfits that
yon have. Yon must make sure that they, too, receive or can get
the SOUl_e code. And you must show them these terms so they
know their rights.
We protect your rights with two steps: (1) copyrigfit the
software, _md (2) offer you this license which gives you lega]
permission to copy, distribute and/or nlodit3_ the software.
