What is journaling and should I use it? Journaling is where the computer (in the background), logs all
disk transactions, such as file open, file write, file read, file
close.
In the event of volume corruption, this journal is easy for
recovery programs to find on the disk and make repairs,
based on this file. We recommend journaling (if your OS
supports it), in case of such corruption.
I've heard journaling makes the array run
slower - should I still use it?
Journaling only slows down the array by about 2KB/sec. For
the most part, when a journal entry is written, it is usually only
a few bytes of data, and doesn't update non-stop. The bene-
fits greatly outweigh the small decrease in data rate
Do I need to do anything to keep my
MV 4440 clean?
Clean the unit with a soft cloth. If further cleaning is
necessary, use a mild liquid soap.
