Adjust the output level from
the speakers (Gain setting)
This setting should be made when the AUDIO OUT
(5.1 channel) jacks on the rear panel are connected to
an AV amplifier or receiver. The output level of each
speaker in your system can be set and confirmed. The
factory setting is set to [Fix]. However, when you want
to adjust the output level, select [Variable].
Settings: Fix*

* Factory setting
When "Variable" is selected
1 Move the cursor control joystic up or down to
select the speaker.
Speakers set to [Off] in the [Speaker Setting] setting
cannot be selected.
2 Move the cursor control joystick right or left to
set the output level.
The value can be adjusted in the range of -6.0 dB to 6.0
dB in 0.5 dB increments. The output level of front L/R
speakers are fixed and therefore cannot be adjusted.
3 Repeat steps 1 and 2 for each speaker in your
system.
Set to Test tone
You can’t use the Test Tone function when the [Audio
Out] setting is [2 Channel] (page 33).
The Test Tone will not work with the disc tray open, or
while a disc is playing.
4 Move the cursor control joystic up to select
[Gain Setting] and press cursor control joystic
right.
5 Move the cursor control joystic up or down to
select the speaker.

When "On" is selected

selection line, then Move the cursor control joystick right
or left to select the speaker to output the test tone from.
The test tone is output from the selected speaker. To
output the test tone from another speaker, change the
speaker selection.
When "Auto" is selected
Test tone is output in the following order.
(Front) Left, Center, (Front) Right, Surround Right,
Surround Left, (Front) Left, ...
6 Move the cursor control joystic up to select
[Test Tone] and press cursor control joystic
left.
This takes you back to the Gain Setting screen.
7 Move the cursor control joystick up or down to
select the speaker, then move the cursor
control joystick right or left to adjust the output
level while listening to the test tone.
To stop the test tone
Move the cursor control joystick down to the "Test Tone"
setting, then move the cursor control joystick right or left to
select [Off] in the [Test Tone] setting.
Notes
• When [Variable] is selected, the output level of all speakers is
uniformly set to –6.0 dB. The output level of each speaker
(center, surround, or sub woofer) can then be adjusted in the
range of –6.0 dB to 6.0 dB. "6.0 dB" is the maximum level of
[Variable] and also the level set for [Fix]. Therefore, when
[Variable] is selected, the output level will usually be lower than
when the setting is set to [Fix].
• The [Variable] setting has no effect on CD and Video CD
playback.
• The test tone is not output when the setting is set to [2 Channel]
in the [Audio Output] setting (page 33), while the disc tray
opens, or while a disc is playing.
