Sony KDL-40V2000 Flat Panel Television User Manual

red standby light blinks 8 times , then off, then repeats the pattern.
Can you help me with this? Is it worth fixing? I spent $350 about a year ago having it tuned up and it's been working great.
Please reply I noticed a few people with the same problem and I couldn't find your reply.
Thanks
Tony

Read thru all 14 pages and seems you've got your hands full Larry but any chance you (or anyone else) can help me?
I've got an KF-42SX300U that's decided to show the 3 blink OVP error code. My problem is I cant find a schematic to see where the dodgy
components are located. I've looked at several other Sony schematics hoping that some components may be similar but catn fint T603 or
R672 in any of them. Any clues please?
Thanks.

Dazman. Your TV set is an LCD type and the three blink code does not mean this on this model of TV set. I am however in the process of
redoing the Sony blinking codes so it is a little better understood for all of the Sony TV sets. On your set, the three blink code is a warning that
the lamp cover is loose or not installed properly. It could have come loose or there is a bad switch on the cover. If you are handy, check the
cover and the mounting of it. Good Luck

Thanks for the speedy response Larry.
I'll let you know how it turns out.

Right, got the screwy drivers out last night and this is what I found;
The light cover microswitch does not seem faulty as the blink code changes to 2 when removed and reverts back to 3 when replaced.
I did find that there is a light eminating from the Lamp Supply Block (SN 146879814) like a super bright white LED but it was not an LED.
I've attached picture (from phone so sorry if not clear) of area where light shows. I have more pictures plus video but dont want to clog this
system up.
Thanks.

Larry -
I've got 7-blinker bad news. I read the diagnostic you provided at the top of the
thread but I am not familiar enough with electronics to know what the implications
are. Is this fixable at home by a layman? If a professional is needed, any idea the
degree of severity - that is, closer to replacing a light bulb and worth the repair or
closer to repairing a picture tube and start thinking about making the kids happy
with a new plasma TV.
The model is KV-27HS420 if that helps.
Thanks for the help. This is a great service.

On this model number, a seven blinker means a horizontal deflection stop. This
could be a minor bad solder connection in or around the High Voltage transformer, or a major breakdown. However, since this is in the high
voltage area, this type of repair is not for the layman to do. If you wish to invest the money, a tech would be your best bet. I am sorry but there
are no quick fixes I have on record for this model. According to the service manual, which cam out in 2004, this set does have a self
diagnostic system, but this does not tell you what part is bad. Good Luck

Wow! Unbelievable service. I thought I'd check back in in a few days and hope for the best. A well-considered response 20 minutes later is
almost too much to believe. No closure but a very helpful response nevertheless. I really appreciate the help. Thanks again and Happy
Thanksgiving!

Larry Dillon said: Give me your email addy I have a service manual I can share with you. I have to send the file Via Pando as it is a large
file. if you do not have Pando extraction tool you can get it for free on line.
I also have 6 blinks with no picture at all. One day we turned on the set, and when we warmed up the cable box, we discovered it has sound
but no picture-black!
I too don't have the moola to put into a service shop.
Could I get access through you for a copy of that manual? I am very tech oriented and have replaced tv components in the past.
Our is model KV-32HS420. Thanks!
