General troubleshooting
Before calling a service technician, please check this chapter
for a possible cause of the problem and some solutions you can
try.
Black box on-screen
Theclosed captionfeature issetto oneof the Text modes(T1,
T2, T3, or T4). Setthe closed caption feature to Off
(_ page 49).
TV stops responding to controls
If the TV stops respondingto the controls on the remote
control or TV control paneland you cannot turn off the TV,
pressand holdthe POWERbutton on the IV control panelfor
5 or more secondsto resetthe TV.
Other problems
If your TV's problem is not addressedin this Troubleshooting
sectionor the recommendedsolution hasnot worked, usethe
RestoreFactory Defaults procedure (_ page 40).
TV will not turn on
Makesure the power cord is plugged in, and then press P%E,.
The remote control batteries may be dead.Replacethe
batteries or try the control panelbuttons.
Picture problems
General picture problems
Checkthe antenna/cable connections (_ Chapter 2)
Press_) onthe remotecontrol or TVand selecta valid video
input source (_ page 41) If no device is connectedto a
particular input on the TV, no picture will display when you
selectthat particular input source. For device connection
details, seeChapter 2.
Antenna reception may be poor. Usea highly directional
outdoor antenna (if applicable).
The station may have broadcast difficulties. Try another
channel.
Adjust the picture qualities (_ page48).
If you are using a VCR, make sure '_° on the remote control
is set correctly (_ page 21).
Do not connect both a standard video cable and an S-video
cableto the VIDEO1 input at the same time
(_ page 13).
Noisy picture
If you are watching an analog channel (off-air broadcastor
CableTV), you canset the CableClear®/DNRfeatureto AUTO
to reduce visible interference in the TV picture (_ page 62).
Video Input Selection problems
If the InputSelectionwindow does not appearwhen you
press _) onthe remote control or TV, press _) a second
time, which will changeto the next video inputsource and
displaythe Input Selectionwindow.
Cannot view external signals or channel 3 or 4
Ifyou cannotview signals from external devicesconnectedto
VIDEO1, VIDEO2, ColorStream¢, HDIVll1, HDIVll2, HDIVll3,
HDIVll4, PCorfrom channels3 or4, makesurethe Input Lock
is set to Off (_ page55)

color or no color
The station may have broadcast difficulties. Try another
channel.
Adjust the Tint and/or Color(_ page48).
composfe or S-video picture
If the TV is connectedto an externalA/V device (e.g., DVD
player,video game system, set-top box, etc.) try using a
ColorStreamor HDIVllvideo connection instead.
If you connect an S-video cable, be sure to disconnect the
standard (composite) video cable. Do not connect both types
of video cableat the same time.
Picture and sound are out of sync
As with all products that contain a digital display, in rare
instances,when viewing certain content (e.g.. television
broadcasts, video games, DVDs),you may notice that the
sound and picture are slightly out of sync. This phenomenon
can becausedby various factors including, without limitation,
video processing within the TV,video processing in an
attached gaming system, and video processing or different
compression rates used by broadcasters in their
programming. You may want to try one or more of the
following suggestions, which may helpto reducethe effect of
this phenomenon:
- If the TV is connectedto an A/V receiver that hasa
programmable audio delayfeature, usethis feature to help
synchronize the sound to the picture.
- Ifyou noticethis phenomenon onlyon certainTVchannels,
please contact your local broadcast, cable,or satellite
provider to inform them of this issue.
LEDindications while in reboot from standby
When you plug the power cord in, the yellow LEDwill blink
until the TV enters standby mode, (plugged in but not
powered on). This is normal and is not a sign of malfunction.
Sound problems
Check the antenna/cableconnections (_ Chapter 2).
The station may have broadcast difficulties. Try another
channel.
The sound may be muted. Press VOLUME.
If you hear no sound, try setting the IVlTSfeatureto
Stereo mode (_ page51).
If youare not receiving asecondaudio programfrom a known
SAP source, make surethe IVlTSfeature is set to SAPmode
(_ page 51).
If you hearaudio that seems "incorrect" for the program you
are watching (such as music or a foreign language),the SAP
mode may be on. Setthe IVlTSfeature to Stereo mode
(_ page 51).
