Advanced Recording Operations
You can gain better results by manually adjusting the focus in the following cases.
Normally, focus is automatically adjusted.
When the POWER switch is set to MEMORY, you can adjust the focus manually with
the image enlarged to twice the size (Expanded focus).
•The autofocus mode is not effective when shooting:
– Subjects through glass coated with water droplets
– Horizontal stripes
– Subjects with little contrast with backgrounds such as walls or the sky
•When you want to change the focus from a subject in the foreground to a subject in
the background
•Shooting a stationary subject when using a tripod
The POWER switch should be set to or .
(1) Press FOCUS.
The 9 (focus) indicator appears on the screen.
(2) Turn the focus ring to sharpen focus.
To return to the autofocus
Press FOCUS to turn off the 9, or indicator.
About expanded focus
If you set EXPANDED F in to ON in the menu settings (p. 174) when the POWER
switch is set to MEMORY, the
(expanded focus) indicator appears when the focus
ring is turned and the image will be enlarged to twice its size. The focal distance
information is also displayed. Adjustment is complete, the image returns to its original
size automatically.
