Tapes recorded on another VCR can be indexed, and
this index data can be added to the HR-IP820U's
library. Tapes to which an index has been added are
known as RI (Retroactively-Indexed) tapes. To make
an RI tape, perform the procedure described below.
Preparation
1. Turn on the power to the TV and the VCR.
2. Set the TV to the channel or mode appropriate for
video playback.
3. Insert the tape you want to make into an RI tape.
Procedure
1 Press INDEX Plus+.
The screen to the right
appears:
Press 3.
NOTE: If your VCR's library is empty, 1 and 2 will not
appear and LIBRARY IS EMPTY appears on screen.
2 The screen to the right
appears:
Press ENTER. If the tape was not at the beginning,
the VCR rewinds it to that point. Then it begins
searching for programs.
3 The following screens appear:
"RE-INDEX/SCAN" changes to "SEARCHING
TITLE..." or "SEARCHING PROGRAM..." when each
index mark is found.
To quit the process, press CANCEL.
● Pressing CANCEL at the first screen in step 3
returns you to the normal screen.
● Pressing CANCEL at the second screen in step 3
brings up the following confirmation screen:
If you are sure you want to stop, select "YES" by
pressing ENTER. The normal screen appears.
If you decide not to abandon the process, select "NO"
by pressing CANCEL. The above screens reappear,
and RE-INDEX/SCAN continues.
When the RE-INDEX/SCAN is complete, the VCR
rewinds the tape to the beginning.
4 The next screen looks
like this:
The Tape Number is automatically set by the VCR.
Using the DIGIT and CURSOR buttons (VOL +/–,
REW, FF), input a name for each program.
When you're done, press
INDEX Plus+ and the
normal screen returns.
5 Press STOP/EJECT to
take the tape out. When
ejecting a tape to which
a number has just been
automatically assigned,
the screen to the right
appears:

IMPORTANT
Before you press ENTER to clear the screen,
write the tape number on the tape label. The tape
number will not be recorded on a Retroactively
Indexed tape. Therefore it will be necessary to
enter this tape number whenever this cassette is
inserted in the VCR.
ATTENTION
To make an RI tape, the VCR must be able to read
Index Marks at the start of each program. If the
VCR on which you recorded this tape didn't write
these marks on the tape, you need to enter them
manually. (See page 20 of the HR-IP820U's
instruction manual.)
