07 Function for Commercial Use
External sync function
The DVD-V8000 is able to accept an external sync signal (black
burst), allowing the video output to be synchronized with ex-
ternal signals. (External sync does not operate when playing
discs other than DVDs.)
By means of this function, video switching timing can be per-
formed without the need for connecting a TBC (time base
corrector), thus allowing switching between images without
causing disruption (vertical roll).
To turn this function ON, switch the ADV. SETUP menu’s
[EXTERNAL SYNC] setting from [OFF] (default) to match the
television format of the disc being played back ([NTSC] or
[PAL]). At the same time, set the rear panel TV SYSTEM
switch to match the disc being played back (NTSC or PAL).
When synchronizing a single player alone, set its terminator
switch to ON. (Factory default position: ON)
Synchronizing two or more players
When a single sync generator be used to input sync sig-
nals to two or more players, set the external sync termi-
nator switch for the terminal player to ON, and those for
other connected players to OFF.
Important
When the external sync function is set to ON, discs other
than DVDs cannot be played back.
The black burst signal’s subcarrier component is not locked.
The video signals from video output connectors will be
disrupted during the approximate 5 seconds required for
the external sync signal to lock.
Input the external sync signal before beginning DVD play-
back, since it will not operate if it is input after playback
begins.
Depending on the sync generator and cables used, con-
necting numerous players may result in attenuation of the
external sync signal, resulting in malfunction.(see Fig.1)

Differences between Mode 1 and Mode 2
When the ADV.SETUP menu's EXTERNAL SYNC is used to
select NTSC Mode 1 and PAL Mode 1, the unit's video signal
output is delayed by 1 field with respect to the external sync
signal.
When NTSC Mode 2 and PAL Mode 2 are selected, no delay
is produced with respect to the external sync signal, but the
following functional restrictions apply:
SETUP's Video Adjust command is not supported.
DVI output is OFF.
Component output is interlaced, and progressive output
is not supported.
In either Mode 1 or Mode 2, synchronized output from two
DVD-V8000 units with the same settings is achieved without
timing deviation.
When switching between the output of a video component
other than the DVD-V8000, if the 1-field delay is problematic,
select Mode 2.
