Common Guidelines for Tiering Configuration
• OnlyParagonIwithhardwareversionHW3(runningParagonII
code)orParagonIIMainUnitcanserveasBaseUnits(firsttier).
• TheversionofBaseUnit(s),bothhardwareandfirmware,must
alwaysbelaterthanoratleastequaltotheversionofothertiered
devices.
• Ama
ximumofthreetiers,includingtheBaseUnit,ispermitted.
• DevicesthatarenotParagonswitchesbutcomewithtwoormore
channelports,suchasRaritanMasterConsole,CompuSwitch,Z‐CIM,
orP2ZCIM,aretreatedastiereddevices.Thesedevicescannotactas
BaseUnitsinaParagonIIsy
stemandcanbeconnectedonlytoaBase
Unitortoasecond‐tierParagonswitch.
Note:Theeasiestwaytodetermineifthehardwareversionofyour
ParagonIunitisHW3istocheckthenumberofitsstackingportsonthe
rearside.Ifthereisonlyonestackingport,thehardwareversionisHW3.
Guidelines for Single Base Configuration

second‐tieroreventhird‐tierdevice(s).
Initialization
• Afteralldeviceshavebeenconnected,poweronthedevicesfrom
UPPERtiertolowertier.Fo

device(s)firstandthentheBaseUnitinatwo‐tierconfiguration.
• Afterinitialization,eachtiereddevicehasanupdateddatabase.
