Troubleshooting
Questions About Channels and the Remote Control
Can I watch one channel while recording from another?
• If you have antenna or cable without a cable box, you can do this by connecting an RF Coaxial cable from the
RF BYPASS OUT connector on the Recorder to the Antenna/RF In connector on the TV. (You will not have TiVo service
functionality on channels you watch using an RF cable that goes directly to your TV.)
• You can always watch any program stored in Now Playing while the Recorder is recording a program.
I can’t get the channel to change.
If you use cable with no cable box:
• Make sure you are using the correct remote control, and that you hold it so that the TiVo button points toward the Recorder.
• Make sure that the batteries are positioned correctly in the remote. If they are, try a new set of batteries.
• Restart your Recorder by unplugging it, waiting fifteen seconds, then plugging it back in.
• Verify that the System Information screen shows that you selected “Cable without a box” during Guided Setup. Go to TiVo Central,
then select Messages & Setup, then System Information.
If you use a cable or satellite box with an IR control cable:
• Make sure the cable or satellite box is turned on.
• Make sure you are using the correct remote control, and that you hold it so that the TiVo button points toward the Recorder, not a
cable or satellite box.
• Refer to the Start Here booklet to verify that the IR Control cable is positioned correctly.
